All The Portraits Of The Royal Children Over The Years

For fans and followers of the monarchy, a new royal portrait is always a big deal. And while any Cambridge or Sussex family moment prompts plenty of discussion, there’s a particular appetite for rare snapshots of the children – the Prince and Princess of Wales’s brood, George, Charlotte and Louis, or the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son and daughter, Archie and Lilibet.

Photographs of the three Wales children are traditionally released to mark major milestones, like christenings and birthdays. These family photos are often taken by the Princess of Wales herself, who is a keen amateur photographer and a patron of the National Portrait Gallery. Other portraits released over the years have captured the children welcoming their new siblings home, or slipping on their backpacks for their first day at nursery or school, and the Wales family traditionally releases the group photo that appears on their Christmas card.

Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stepped away from royal life, they have on occasion shared details about their children. For Archie’s first birthday, they posted an Instagram video of the Duchess reading to their baby son, while Vogue photographer Misan Harriman snapped images of Lilibet on her own first birthday during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Years on, glimpses of Archie and Lilibet now appear in Meghan’s new Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, and on her rebooted personal Instagram. Now a self-styled lifestyle guru in the tradition of Martha Stewart, the Duchess recently shared a dessert recipe inspired by her daughter, and posted a snap of her gathering produce from the garden with her children in tow.
