If you thought that boho season ended back when the first autumn leaf fell, think again. The Y2K trend still has the fashion industry in its beruffled grip (boho skirts, boho bags, boho dresses – no clothing item is safe), which means we can expect to see plenty more Sienna Miller-coded motifs emerging over the winter months.
But even as a trend-weary shopping editor, there is one wintry boho buy that I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia for: the boho jacket. Also known as the “trophy jacket”, this Noughties outerwear staple – beloved by Glasto-going It-girls in the 2010s – has a similarly boxy silhouette to its more regimented sibling, the military jacket (are we saying goodbye to quiet luxury’s oversized silhouettes? Discuss). And yet the mood is decidedly less My Chemical Romance, and much more, my stylish art teacher.

At Etro’s spring/summer 2026 show, Marco De Vincenzo sent out a collection that Vogue Runway described as “a fearless explosion of colour and craft”, a mood that was captured in a particular cropped jacket that featured a wide, embroidered lapel and fringed cuffs. A similar aesthetic was explored at Valentino’s Resort 2026 collection, filtered through Alessandro Michele’s “extroverted luxury” lens, in the form of an intricate, crystal- and sequin-adorned jacket styled with a silk skirt and corset top. Take note for party season.
Of course, due to its eclectic nature, no two boho jackets are alike, however they are typically crafted from a luxe fabric, such as velvet or silk, and decorated with elaborate embellishment or embroidery. Rixo’s Denver jacket certainly fits the brief, with its cropped silhouette, velvet fabrication and gold embroidered edging. In fact, it’s the brand’s third best-selling outerwear piece to date, suggesting that, perhaps, the appetite for boho is more evergreen than we realise.
“I think the boho jacket is making a comeback because people are craving looks that feel expressive and individual,” says Rixo’s co-founder and brand director Orlagh McCloskey. “It can instantly give a dress or even jeans and a T-shirt that unique, thrown-together look. There’s a real nostalgia for detailed embroidery, rich fabrics, and pieces that tell a story.” The Denver jacket, she says, was inspired by “our love of vintage and the incredible appliquéd jackets you’d find during the flower power era”.

When it comes to styling the boho jacket 2.0, subvert the hippie undertones with more contemporary silhouettes and fabrications. You could style a boho jacket for an upcoming festive party with cigarette trousers, a silken cami and kitten heels, or adapt the look for the weekend with low-slung jeans, a cashmere knit and sneakers. Only last week, Vogue US’s associate fashion editor, Nicole Martini, nailed the brief with a velvet boho jacket which she styled with belted, wide-leg denim culottes and knee-high boots for an eBay live shopping video.
It is also worth keeping your eyes peeled for pre-loved originals from the Noughties – for example, Kate Moss for Topshop’s embroidered pinstripe jacket is an iconic look that can be easily sourced for less from sites such as Vinted and eBay.
