When you stop to consider the clean girl (something I find myself doing semi-regularly in this line of work), the usual uniform of Alo sports bra and Lululemon leggings springs to mind, perhaps with a few Bala bangles and an Erewhon smoothie thrown in for good measure – cornerstones of the West Village-meets-WeHo wardrobe we’ve come to know and love. But though the athleisure aesthetic may serve you in the summer, come December, even the most matcha-fuelled among us are not immune to the cold.
One of the joys of winter is the big coat, also known as Vogue’s favourite one-and-done winter styling hack. For the maximalists and boho-inclined, there is, of course, the tried-and-tested Penny Lane coat, or an XXL faux fur creation. But for anyone with a hyperfixation on The Row, allow us to draw your attention to queen of the clean girls Hailey Bieber’s stripped-back winter wardrobe.
Paired with jeans and a white T-shirt for a walk during a trip to Tokyo, the Rhode beauty mogul’s sleek, almost floor-length black coat was a perfect example of pared-back (and temperature-appropriate) tailoring. So, as we brace ourselves for the “new year, new me” explosion of matching sets back on our feeds, Hailey’s shin-grazing, single-breasted coat is a reminder to always leave space for smartening things up.
