Selena Gomez has long been a beauty trend-setter. While she was one of the earliest recruits to the celebrity bob team, it’s with her manicures that she and her regular nail artist, Tom Bachik, typically pre-empt the season’s hottest styles. Enter: the “toasted” mani.

In the last few months, Gomez has sported a suite of chic nail designs that match her refined, ladylike personal style: pink mocha nails, soap nails and even the no-mani mani for her engagement nails. An elegant set only serves to enhance the beauty of her six-carat marquise-shaped diamond engagement ring with a pavé band, after all.

For autumn, Bachik – the celebrity nail artist often tapped by Jennifer Lopez, too – has signalled a new nail trend alert with Gomez’s latest set; “toasted” nails to evoke those cosy autumnal feelings.
To achieve the look, Bachik starts with a selection of Tweerzerman tools to shape and buff the nail, tidying up the cuticles and nail bed so that the expanse is clear for a simple coat. Bachik then used Essie’s Special Effect polish in the shade Liquid Sunrise – it’s a perfect September shade with its golden hour tones, a deep beige infused with pink and green iridescent pearls that create a glowy, satin chrome effect on its own or over another shade. It’s only available in the US, but the Green Nail Polish by Manicurist in the shade Carnation is a pretty close match.
To finish, Bachik added his Click Colors top coat from his own brand in Super Clear for a clean, luminous end result. Another US-only polish, sub in the O.P.I Infinite Shine Gel-Like Top Coat or the Essie Gel Couture Gel Top Coat in its place.
It’s a little bit of a switch-up from some of Gomez’s recent sets. In the last few weeks, the actor, singer, and Rare Beauty mogul has opted for a classic French manicure (Bachik recommends using a pink or nude base colour, rather than a clear polish), and some weekend-ready glitter nails.
For her engagement nails, Bachik shared that the delicate tone was Chanel’s Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in shade 111, named Ballerina. Needless to say, we’ll be watching for her wedding mani closely.
