The first time I went skiing, it was for a year 8 school trip to the Alps, and I can remember my ski outfit as though it were yesterday: a bulky, black and fuchsia two-piece sourced from TK Maxx, paired with crippling awkwardness and the sad, standard-issue side-fringe of a Y2K teen. I longed to be one of the dazzling, gazelle-like women who glided down the mountain in their sleek one-pieces, improbably groomed and maddeningly chic. It didn’t take me long to realise that these visions of Bond girl glamour were all dressed in the same brand: Perfect Moment.

Founded in Chamonix in 1984, Perfect Moment started out as a creative concept from extreme sports filmmaker and professional skier, Thierry Donard. Then, in 2010, the brand was taken over by British-Swiss couple Jane and Max Gottschalk, who took the brand’s high-performance materials and combined it with more directional, design-conscious silhouettes. Fast forward 15 years and Perfect Moment is experiencing yet another first, in the form of a capsule ski collection with high-street stalwart, H&M.
Launching 2 December, the 28-piece collection is a celebration of all things ski and après-ski, and includes everything from down-filled outerwear and statement-making separates to knitwear and winter-ready accessories. Anyone familiar with Perfect Moment’s design motifs will spot many of its signatures across the collection: such as the brand’s North Star logo, which is emblazoned across a cosy belted jacket and matching leggings or the intarsia “snow” slogan knit. The Perfect Moment colour palette of monochrome, silver, plus the odd pop of red and ice blue, is also a key theme throughout the collection.
“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Perfect Moment on this winter collection – it’s unexpected, dynamic, and sure to spark excitement,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor and head of design womenswear at H&M. “The silhouettes are glamorous yet laid-back – just like après-ski – but also has a real edge with the leather, faux fur and textured knits.”
Of course, even if you have no plans to ski this December (or indeed ever), the collection features plenty of pieces that will look just as good in the city as they do on the slopes – perfect for anyone craving some piste-worthy styling this winter. See: the black puffer, ribbed wool baclava or bouclé-knit cardigan, which will all look suitably chic with slouchy jeans and sneakers.
You know I’ll be snapping up one of the down jackets in homage to that awkward 13-year old who would’ve done anything to be a Perfect Moment woman. Scroll down to see and shop the full collection.
