FAQs

How do light therapy glasses work?

“Light therapy glasses use patterns of light, often combined with sound, to stimulate specific neural networks in the brain,” explains Michal Cohen-Sagi, founder of Vidavii.

Are light therapy glasses always a high spec product or are there variations within the category?

According to Cohen-Sagi, there is a wide spectrum from basic light therapy glasses that simply deliver blue or white light to help correct circadian rhythm issues, such as winter low mood or jet lag. “Not all devices provide the same level of effect.”

What should you always look for when buying light therapy glasses?

As with everything, it’s important to do your research before you buy, as comfort, fit, usage and other preferences within the wearable tech sector are hugely personal. “I would recommend looking at the science behind it, the person who created it, if there’s a variety of programmes, proven results or testimonials,” advises Cohen-Sagi.

How often can you wear light therapy glasses?

“That depends on the actual glasses and the programmes that are being offered. Most systems are designed for regular use, from a few sessions a week to daily. For most basic light therapy glasses, it’s recommended to use up to six hours a day, but always check instructions with the device.”

Anyone who shouldn’t wear them?

“It’s safe for adults (over 16 in most cases), however, not for people with photosensitive epilepsy; people with serious neurological conditions or for those who are highly light-sensitive,” she adds.

What kind of benefits should you start to see and how soon?

“That depends on the glasses and the programme, but you can experience deep relaxation, reduced stress and improved sleep that same night. Over time, you can experience more clarity and focus, increased creativity and with more balanced mood and energy,” says Cohen-Sagi.
