Some haircuts never go out of style. A layered Farrah Fawcett-esque chop is one of them – and supermodel Bella Hadid is the latest convert to the retro style.
Hadid dropped in on the Orebella Ornament Shop in Texas, which was a weekend pop-up stocked with her own brand of fragrances. Arriving with cowboy boyfriend Adan Banuelos, she debuted a new, bouncy butterfly cut.
It may look effortless, but mastering this style requires some attention to detail. “Focusing on framing the face, short layers are cut in at the front, and they get longer towards the back,” Jake Wanstall, hairstylist at Larry King, previously shared with British Vogue. The hairstyle features a “shattered baseline”, which is achieved with a razor for added texture.
Iterations of the butterfly cut, from longer versions to chin-grazing layered bobs, have been very popular over the past two years. A-listers Selena Gomez, Jenna Ortega and Hadid’s sister, Gigi, have each dipped a toe into the trend.
The work of hairstylist Jacob Schwartz, there was no trace of the model’s Birkin bangs post-restyle. Hadid leaned further into her Western-inspired fashion mood, wearing vintage Anna Sui boots, a Plein Sud denim dress, and a silver heart necklace from Chopard.
Glass nails were also a feature, with a hot pink aura accent towards the tip, while a dose of glam by Nadia Tayeh brought it all together – a bronzed lid with dustings of silver glitter and shimmery lips. As breezy as the butterfly cut itself.
For strands as glossy as Hadid’s, blowdry your hair and add a hydrating cream (or a small amount of oil for even more shine). Elevating the style for party season couldn’t be simpler. You can use a heated curling wand to create more definition and structure throughout the hair.
