Gwyneth Paltrow has been absolutely turning looks during her Marty Supreme promotional tour, but on Tuesday night her daughter Apple Martin stole the spotlight, wearing a slinky black maxi dress. If you’re a Paltrow aficionado, then Martin’s dress may look familiar: it’s a Calvin Klein collection gown pulled from her mother’s extensive closet. Paltrow originally wore it to the New York premiere of her film Emma in 1996.
Of course, when you’re mum is Gwyneth Paltrow, you’re lucky to have an exquisite wardrobe at your fingertips. Remember when she re-wore her polarising 2002 Oscars dress by Alexander McQueen? It is fun to see Martin keep paying fashion tribute to her mother, especially after Paltrow herself has been referencing her own iconic looks.
There is something extremely chic, though, about how fresh and modern the minimalist Calvin Klein dress still feels in 2025. Back in the ’90s, Paltrow wore it sans flashy jewellery, pairing it only with a discreet little satin clutch and strappy sandals. To match the clean, contemporary vibe, Martin wore it in a similar way, allowing the simple dress to shine.
Back in September, Paltrow told Vogue that her daughter has a tendency to borrow her vintage red-carpet designs (sometimes without asking). “She pulls all kinds of stuff. She’s very into all my ’90s Calvin, of which there’s a lot – and the ’90s Prada, of which there’s a lot,” Paltrow said.
Whereas most daughters would rather be caught dead than in their mother’s attire, Martin told Vogue of her mum’s style: “She’s such a badass when it comes to fashion and has just done what she wants and doesn’t really care.” We could not agree more – and both wear the fashion attitude well.
