Party season is officially upon us – but if you feel like ditching the sequins and feathers this year, we have just the dress for you: the ’80s power mini featuring oversized shoulders. Best of all? It doesn’t necessarily scream festive, so you can wear it well into the new year, too.

We first noticed strong-shouldered minidresses taking over the catwalks for autumn/winter 2025. At the Stella McCartney show, there was a draped dress with padded shoulders in baby pink, while at Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello presented a structured mini in a festive green shade. Over at Givenchy, there was a more feminine take on the trend via a sheer skater-style dress with a tutu skirt, again featuring padded shoulders.

It’s not just on the catwalks that the trend is taking hold. At The Fashion Awards, Emily Ratajkowski wore a caped black minidress from Stella McCartney’s forthcoming collaboration with H&M, which she paired with strappy heels. Meanwhile, the likes of Hailey Bieber and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley have long been fans of the blazer dress, offering more of a corporate-core spin on the trend.
